Malware Protection

What is Malware?

Short for malicious software, malware is specifically designed to damage or disrupt normal system functions. Viruses are an extreme example of malware, but most often users will see issues caused by other forms of malware, such as spyware and adware. While not as overtly harmful to the system, they can sometimes be more detrimental to the day-to-day use of your machine.

Two of the more popular malware protection applications are Spybot and Ad-Aware. It is
important to understand we cannot assume liability for these programs as they can cause problems with some programs on your computer (usually programs that have some built-in component of spyware). But we strongly recommend installing SpyBot and Ad-Aware, and running them at least once a week.

Remember that these two applications should be updated before you run them each time.
