What is an uninstall? Sometimes it's necessary
to take a piece of software off of your computer. It could be conflicting
with another piece of software, or you may have no need for it
anymore. The best way to get rid of conflicting or old software
is to use the uninstall function available on your computer. (See
instructions below.)
Why can't I just throw it in the recycle bin? If
you don't correctly uninstall a piece of software then parts of
it could stay on your computer and cause problems. Your computer
might run slower because it's still looking for the software that
isn't there, or you won't be able to run a new software application
correctly.
How do I uninstall AV software?
It is important
that you install the KSC provided version of McAfee. So, whether
you already have McAfee or are using another anti-virus software,
such as Norton, Trend Micro, or AVG, you should uninstall your
current anti-virus and install the McAfee provided on this CD.
- Left-click on the Start button in the lower
left-hand corner of your screen.
- In the pop-up menu that comes up left-click on the words Control
Panel.
- Double left-click on the icon for Add/Remove Programs to
open up a list of software on your computer.
- Find the software you want to remove and left-click on it.
In this case you would look for software with the anti-virus
company name in it, such as Norton, Trend Micro, or AVG.
- Left-click on the change/remove button to
the right and follow the on-screen prompts to remove the software,
answer yes to all of the questions that come up.
- Restart your computer once you have uninstalled
the software.
